by Ps. Abel Phillips

  1. THE PRINCIPLE OF COMPASSION (Genesis 45:1-3)

God’s love is greater than all our sin

      1. Genesis 42:7 - He spoke roughly to test them
      2. Genesis 42:24 – He wept out of compassion & love

  1. THE PRINCIPLE OF CONVICTION (Genesis 45:3)

No one is truly saved apart from the conviction of sin.

  1. THE PRINCIPLE OF CONVERSION (Genesis 45:4-8)

In order to be saved, we must come to Him, yielding to His Lordship; by grace through faith

      1. Ephesians 2:8-10 – Saved by Grace through faith unto good works.

  1. THE PRINCIPLE OF CONFESSION (Genesis 45:9-13)
    1. Once we give our hearts to our Lord, it is our job to confess Him openly and publicly
    2. The message we are to share
      1. We once rejected Him.
      2. God has raised Him up on high.
      3. He has a name that is above every name.
      4. The world is now at His feet.
      5. He is the fairest of ten thousand.
      6. He has forgiven all of our sins.
      7. He wants us to be with Him and to share His glory.

  1. THE PRINCIPLE OF COMMUNION (Genesis 45:14-15)

You have been redeemed, forgiven and commissioned to fellowship with your King.

  1. THE PRINCIPLE OF COMPENSATION (Genesis 45:16-23)

God saves us entirely by grace, then enriches us and supplies us for service

      1. Hebrews 2:11 – He calls us brethren before God
      2. Matthew 6:33 – Seek his Kingdom first, He will provide
      3. Colossians 2:10 – In Him we are complete
      4. Philippians 4:19 – He shall supply all our needs

  1. THE PRINCIPLE OF COMMUNICATION (Genesis 45:24-28)
    1. We communicate by our love (John 13:35)
    2. We communicate by our lips – The truth of the Word of God
    3. We communicate by our lives – Our Christ like Character.

A Revelation of Love
by Samuel Hari

1 John 3:22-23

Firstly, the WORD says that we BELIEVE on the name of His Son. We need a revelation of Jesus and all He has done for us.

Secondly, only through His strength, His grace, are we able to love one another.

This is the final great revelation that will usher in the mightiest revival.

What are the things that will change in your life as a result of that revelation? The absence of love is not hate, it is FEAR! 1 Jn 4:18.

Thirdly, notice that God does not suggest that we love one another but it is a commandment. It’s never a “take it” or “leave it” scenario. Why?
  • Just when you try to love someone, Satan will try his best to discourage you.
  • This commandment does not say that we are to love those who love us. Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb…that’s where the fruit is…Jackson Brown.
  • We love BECAUSE we are committed to God’s word and the love of God has become a reality in our heart.
  • When we fulfill this commandment, we fulfill all others.

WHAT TYPE OF LOVE? WHITE HOT LOVE!

Luke 3:16-17 This fire speaks about love/passion.

1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins."

The Greek says “white hot” love for one another.

COMMITTED TO LOVE
We must learn to operate in God’s love so much so that it governs our thinking, our words and our actions. This comes through the renewing of our minds.

God is Love. When we bring love into a situation, we bring God. Love is a manifestation of God. Love is a person. It is like bringing another person into a situation when we love. That person is GOD ALMIGHTY! 1 John 4:16

CAN WE LOVE WITH THIS TYPE OF LOVE?
Rom 5:5; John 17:26
There is a huge reservoir of love in us. It was put there by the Holy Spirit the day we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He will baptize us with Holy Spirit and with FIRE! Why aren’t we seeing it yet? Because some of us don’t know it’s there and some of us don’t have a revelation of that love.

Begin to draw out this love; choose to walk in love, by looking at Jesus, especially when it’s impossible. When we walk in this love, covenant blessings begin to flow. Abraham had a revelation of love and he activated God’s covenant blessings over His life and the generations to come. We are under the same covenant today!

WHAT IS FAITH?

by Daniel J.

Scriptures:

· Hebrews 11:1

1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

=> Faith is something we believe with absolute certainty when we can’t prove it with our senses.

· Romans 12:3

3For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

=> Faith comes from God thru Jesus Christ. You cannot create it.

How does faith work?

Analogy –

· Faith is like a vehicle. It is used to go from point a to b. Point a is where you start. Point b is your destination which is called hope.

The starting point of every faith journey is :

1. At the cross – recognizing the Lord sacrifice and gift of salvation.

2. Realizing how much God loves us.

Faith only works when you have something you hope for otherwise it is of no use.

· The fuel for faith is the Word of God. How far your faith will take you depends on how much of the Word of God has been stored in your heart.

· The GPS for your faith journey is hearing the voice of God. He will lead you step by step. Never get upset you make a mistake, He just gently leads you.

· The driver of the faith vehicle is Love. Unless we have the right motivation in our heart we will not get to our destination.

GROW Camp 2008 Messages

Summaries of the three Camp Messages, by Tom Sparks –

The first message was on the theme: “Which Tree are we Eating from?”

In this message we launched out from Genesis 2:8-10 and 2:16-17 and considered the issues relating to these two trees, how they impacted Adam & Eve, and how that impact has continued through time.

From there we looked at many biblical references to concepts that interconnect with these two trees and how they have affected our lives.

Galatians 4:21-27; Hebrew 12:22-24; Revelation 21:1-3; Revelation 21:10-11; Revelation 21:22-25; Revelation 22:1-5,14

From these passages we noted several key ideas that emerge from them:

  1. A legalistic lifestyle results from eating from the wrong tree, as a manifestation of the ongoing tendency we have towards fear, insecurity, and insignificance related to our sin. These often manifest in religious ideas, traditions, and practices, which lack the dynamic life that come from eating from the tree of life, and drain us of joy and power.
  2. The tree of life is available to us in the Spirit, in Christ, and this is where we are to derive our strength for living.
  3. Bondage results from eating from the wrong tree, but life, grace, and freedom result from eating from the right one.
  4. Paul’s theme of “The Jerusalem which is above” took us into the world of the invisible kingdom of God, in the heavenlies, in Christ. This is our truest home and the place we are to draw our strength for living from.
  5. This New Jerusalem is described, according to Hebrews 12:22-24 and Isaiah 2:1-4 as the Mt. Zion, which is the high mountain we are called to in the heavenlies in Christ. It is here where true worship takes place in the Spirit. It is the spiritual locale for the Church in Christ.
  6. While we may yet see an even fuller manifestation of the new heavens and new earth, it is clear we, the bride of Christ now, are called to connect to this dimension now, and watch it continue to unfold in ever increasing glory and splendor in our lives.
  7. These things teach us to look less into the natural realm of life for meaning, and more into the spiritual realm. Who we are and what we have in Christ far exceeds anything we might carve out in the natural realm of life. The natural realm must be urged to conform to the spiritual realm, and all this begins by faith within our hearts.
  8. The glory of what God is doing in and through His Church, and into His Kingdom, will ultimately cover the whole earth with a spiritual light that cannot be hidden, blocked, or dimmed, as our lives are transformed into a golden clarity that reveals the pure light of Christ in and through each one of us.
  9. From this New Jerusalem will flow out the crystal clear and pure river of God, from under the throne of His spiritual authority, to water and refresh our lives.
  10. Alongside this clear stream will grow the tree of life which will produce 12 kinds of fruit for the healing of our lives and the nations. These 12 fruits appear to represent the “complete” nature of the power of the Spirit to produce the life of Christ in the lives of those fully surrendered to His lordship.
  11. As we consume Christ, according to John 6 and Revelation 22, we are healed and restored. He alone can satisfy the spiritual hunger we experience. Legalism robs us of intimacy with Him. Only the grace of God in Christ can liberate us from fear and bondage and bring us to true health and fruitfulness.

In our times of morning devotion we considered some additional implications of this tree of life in our lives:

  1. According to 1 Peter 1:23 God plants the seed of the tree of life into our lives, by the impartation of His Word, and because it is imperishable we can have confidence it will ultimately perform its perfect work of restoring the health of that tree to our lives. Jesus is the tree of life.
  2. In 1 John 3:9 we are given the hope that while we may struggle with sin at times, ultimately the seed of the Word will have the victory, as we yield to the Spirit who administers this Word, and our lives will be fully transformed.
  3. In John 15, as the seed of the Word flourishes within us the life of Christ within becomes a tree/vine of life that brings us life and causes our lives to become spiritually fruitful.
  4. While life in this body and this world can be stressful at times, we are encouraged by Matthew 11:28 to come to Jesus, rest in His ability to complete what He has started, and have confidence that we will arrive at the place of life and grace we have been called to.

Therefore, our call to experience the life of this tree – the Lord Jesus Christ, is not just something for some far distant eschatological future, but according to the writers of the New Testament, it is there in the heavenlies, in Christ, for us to experience now. God is calling and encouraging us to find in Christ the source of our life and enter into a fuller experience of the impartation of His life through the Spirit. Amen!

Our second message was on the theme: “The Mystery of Disappointment”

In this message we considered the bewildering issue of a mighty and powerful God who at times either allows or initiates seasons of trial and suffering in our lives.

While none of us relish the idea of such times, we were encouraged from the Word to anticipate hope emerging from them because God has the ability to bring great good out of great suffering. Romans 5:3-5 references this principle of hope.

God is able to cause tremendous personal maturity during such times, and will increase our intimacy with Him if we allow Him to.

We shared with the congregation, the story of Tyler Sparks’ death, and while sooo much pain was experienced even a greater depth of relationship and life in Christ emerged from it. God is able to do this with all of our trials if we will look through our pain into His merciful and compassionate eyes.

We touched on 8 principles that emerge from approaching these times with hope:

  1. Life comes out of afflictions. Job 36:15 and Psalm 105:16-22 assure us that God will bring good out of every trial we face. Our eyes and ears will be opened to see and hear Him better.
  2. God will never leave us. We may feel alone at times, but God is continually watching over every aspect of this season in our lives, and will carry us through it.
  3. What God starts He finishes. While such times can feel endless and meaningless, because of the nature and goodness of God we can have confidence that the trial will end and it will end well in spiritual ways within us if we focus on Jesus throughout the trial.
  4. God has infinite wisdom, while we only have finite insight. If we trust His infinite wisdom to accomplish His perfect purposes in these times, instead of demanding that we be able to “immediately” see the good of it all, in His time the “good” will emerge and we will experience an awareness that He does all things well.
  5. It will only kill what is holding you back in God. We may feel like it will literally end us, but if we walk in the Spirit through these times God will bring to death only those things that have been hindering His life within us.
  6. Trouble reveals the true you. We may not like this revelation, but it is such an important one. In time it will reveal the grace strength He has formed within us, and we will see that His keeping power has produced good things within.
  7. You will come to know God in ways you never would have were it not for such trials. Matthew 8:23-27 is just one example in the life of the apostles to verify this.
  8. Don’t walk alone through these times. Find a friend and walk it through in prayer. The danger of confusion resulting in bitterness towards God is high in such times. Find a wise and spiritual person to help you process your sorrow, and in the end you will have been protected from wrong conclusions.

Disappointment will face each one of us, but as we process these times “In Christ,” and see it in and through Him we will see it bring forth wonderful new insights and life. Only God can do this, and He is faithful to do it every single time as we walk intimately with Him.

Our third message was on the theme: “What and Where is True Worship?”

From our consideration of John 4:20-24 we came to see that what God is most looking for in our worship is a life poured out in personal sacrifice to Him.

While music, praise, clapping and dancing have a part to play in worship, the theme of sacrifice far more fully encompasses what God is looking for within us, without losing our love for music and song.

Paul, in Romans 12:1,2 makes the connections perfectly clear, and his optimism about such sacrifice is unmistakable.

When we look at sacrifice we are tempted to think negatively about it, as if God will ask us to do an innumerable amount of distasteful things if we fully surrender our lives to Him, but because of His nature we can have confidence that the only things He asks us to bring to the cross and sacrifice before Him will be those things that hinder His life within us. He will remove what blocks the flow of His life and will release truly powerful living in Christ.

John 12:24-26 promises us that if we are willing to surrender our lives fully to the processes of God within us we will see a great harvest of life come from it.

We are tempted to hold back portions of our lives for the flesh, because we all too often listen to the flesh worry us about intense devotion to Him, as if He will ask us to give up those things that make our lives meaningful, but if we will look at His processes through the eyes of faith we will trust Him to bring only good from our spiritual acts of worship.

God is not looking for partial surrender or partial sacrifice. As the Old Testament lambs were called to give the entirety of their lives, so we too have the same call. The great difference for us is that Jesus Christ is the first lamb in history that became a “Living Sacrifice.” Always in the past the sacrificial lamb was a “Dead Sacrifice.” But through the power of resurrection life in the Spirit, Jesus rose from the dead, conquered death and hell, and released the abundance of life from such death. As we enter into the death He takes us through we too become “living sacrifices.”

We are called to a heavenly worship…one that is not directly tied to this earth or any earthly system of religion. All too often we expect Churches on this earth to provide for us what only God in the Spirit can provide. Our expectations tend to drive pastors to exhaustion, while trying to satisfy the demands of their congregations. As we see Jesus’ teaching here, He tells us we are to no longer expect an earthly expression of the kingdom to be the source of our life. The Father calls us into the Spirit realm, tells us He is seeking those who will worship/sacrifice their lives “In Spirit,” and “In Truth,” and thus find their way into a realm where true life can open.

Churches on earth can become helpful portals into this experience, but Jesus never referenced Churches having the responsibility for providing this for His people. Jesus by His Spirit is happy to draw us, in our personal walk before Him, into the heavenlies, where He will reveal His kingdom and power to us, and deliver us from those things that hinder the pure flow of His life. As we see this happen, then we look less expectationally to institutions on earth to provide our spiritual life, and instead we bring spiritual life into them to cause growth in the body of Christ. We transmit His life from His realm into the natural realm and thus cover the earth with His knowledge and glory – Habakkuk 2:14 and Isaiah 11:9 . What a vision for Christian life!!!

In John 14:2, 4-7, 11, and 16-17 we saw that the place God is preparing for us is the same place the writer of Hebrews teaches us of in Hebrews 3:1-6. This place is “The House of God,” and the body of Christ, In Christ, is that “Place.” The house of God has the potential of being the place we meet Christ, experience His power and life, and transmit that life to others. We are not to look to some distant “next life” experience of heavenly mansions or rooms in the Father’s house, nor do we look to a building on earth for this house. Everything Jesus was referring to here would be fulfilled as He sent His Spirit to create the House of God on earth in the lives of His saints.

The body of Christ is “The Place” He was referring to. It is here, in Christ, that we experience His life. In Luke 17:20 the Pharisees and disciples longed to know when and where the Kingdom of God would physically manifest, and Jesus clearly taught them it was forming within them and would expand into all the world here and now. It would not manifest in some earth bound ruling and reigning of some earthly Messianic Monarch, but would be manifested in the lives of each of His subjects as the Spirit of Christ came to dwell in and through them.

As we “Shachah,” (Hebrew) and “Proskuneo,” (Greek), I.e. prostrate ourselves before the Lord, in lives of sacrifice and service to Jesus, we will experience the life and power of His kingdom.

True worship while containing music, extends far beyond music into absolute surrender of all that we have and are. It is in this place that we will experience the purpose for our lives being saved and delivered from this world system.

In these three messages God is seeking to reveal His mind and heart for our lives to enter into true life in Christ. It is our desire that Jesus would become the focal point of all that we are, dream to be, and become.

May God seal these truths to our hearts and help us to see and know Him better.

These teachings will soon be available, in greater detail, at www.khtmin.org, under “Articles” and “Spiritual Life.” We pray they will be helpful to your spiritual life. My time with the GROW family was a wonderful experience for me, and I eagerly look forward to future times with the Church. Thank you for your kindness in making me feel welcome. God bless each of you!

Receive Your Inheritance!

by Samuel Hari

Gal 3:13-14; Gal 3:29

As Christians we are the seed of Abraham. Everything that God promised him belongs to us and has been passed down to us through Jesus.

Gen 12:2-3

When God tells someone that He’s going to bless them, He’s not just telling them to have a nice day like we do.

Definition of BLESS in W.E. Vine and Webster’s Dictionary is “to cause to prosper, to make happy, to bestow favor upon, to consecrate to holy purposes, to make successful, to make prosperous in temporal concerns pertaining to this life, to guard and to preserve.”

The ABRAHAMIC COVENANT

  1. Financial Blessing
    1. Read Gen 13: He had a COVENANT of blessing with God and KNEW that God would bring him to success no matter where he lived.
  2. Overcomer Ability
    1. Abraham knew he had a covenant with God. He knew that God had promised to be an enemy to his enemies and he dared to act on that promise. He took God at His word. Gen 15:1 AMP.
    2. We are Abraham’s seed and we have the same COVENANT Gen 17:6-7
  3. Beyond Human Limitations
    1. No limit to what God can do to those who BELIEVE. God can make the impossible possible.
    2. Sarah was barren and old (more than 90 years old). She bore Isaac and stayed alive until he was 37 years old. She not only bore him but raised him to manhood!
  4. Generational Blessings
    1. The blessing continued to Isaac. There was famine in the land and he considered moving to Egypt to escape. However God not only told him to stay (Gen 26:2-3) but also blessed him instead (Gen 26:12)
    2. We are blessed to be a blessing. See the life of Joseph Gen 41. He started as a slave but ended up being the “savior” of Egypt when there was another famine in the land. He also ended up being the most powerful man next to pharaoh himself! The entire country was blessed because of Joseph COVENANT with God.

Abraham, Joseph and Isaac had a great inheritance but we have an even greater one through Jesus. Look at Heb 8:6

We are both recipients of the natural blessings that came through Abraham as well of the spiritual blessings that came through the new covenant that was established through our relationship with Jesus!

Rom 4:18-25 AMP

What opened the door to Abraham’s blessings? FAITH. Abraham believed. There’s no record of him moaning and grumbling and worrying and complaining. God cannot hear all this. He only hears FAITH. Faith opens the door to our INHERITANCE.

Fighting the Good Fight of Faith by Samuel Hari

Over the process of time and trials, many of us may surrender and trust and even obey for a season but how many of us have persevered in trusting God. One of the hardest concepts to understand is “WAIT!” Notice that deep down inside, that is the one word we don’t want God to say? We don’t mind “NO” and of course we want “YES”. But “WAIT!” How long? Why?

Again let’s look at the WOG for strength and guidance in developing PERSEVERANCE.

Scriptures:

1 Tim 1:18-19

  1. One aspect is personal prophecy. More importantly, what does God’s revealed word say to us everyday? We need to personalize the WOG daily. Confess it daily 1 john 5:14-15 This is the confidence….bringing our words into alignment to the word of God!
  2. This will inspire us and aid us daily to wage the good warfare.
  3. We know that Jesus has won the victory and we live daily by His grace but the enemy is walking about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet 5:5-10).
  4. As we surrender and trust, God will give us the strength to obey and persevere. Abraham believed! He had strength to obey and persevere.

1 Peter 5:5-10; 1 Tim 6:12; 2 Cor 4:16-18

  1. We need to realize that our daily life is a fight for the faith. Paul is saying that there will be circumstances (no question about it) DAILY that undermines our faith in God. That’s when we have to realize that the roaring lion is at the door. What are we going to do about it? When we pray for healing and don’t see the manifestation, when we pray for salvation of a loved one and it’s slow in happening? When we are praying for our work situation, family, etc.
  2. In the presence of many witnesses. Get accountable i.e. CG, prayer group.
  3. The prodigal father did not allow hatred or bitterness to grow over the years, but love intensified! He fought the good fight and won!

2 Tim 4:7-8

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

NO MORE DELAY by David Lai

Text: John 5: 1-9

This man had a “lifetime” membership of sickness. We need to get out of our “lifetime” membership of failures, sickness, poverty, etc. The LORD desires NEW BEGINNINGS for us. Jesus has made it possible for us to withdraw our membership from our past so that we can enter NEW BEGINNINGS.

  1. We must move from being a “give me” Christian to a “make me” Christian.
    1. The 9 lepers had a touch of God (give me) but one leper had an encounter with God (make me). Luke 17:12-19
    2. The prodigal son started with “give me my portion” and ended up defeated. When he became a “make me” son, he had abundance. Luke 15:12, 19
    3. OT: Israelites always demanded “give me, give me, and give me”. God still gave but it was not His perfect will.

  1. If we give excuses, we will never experience breakthroughs.
    1. John 5:7 “No one helps me, others get in before me..”
    2. Abraham and Sarah made excuses that they were too old to bear children. Only when they believed, breakthrough came! Gen 16, 17

  1. Do not complain or question God’s work in our lives.
    1. Phil 2:13 Our WILL involves the MIND and DO involves ACTION and OBEDIENCE.
    2. How can the world see a difference if we are complaining just like they are? Rom 12:1-2
    3. We are a chosen generation called out to PRAISE HIM (NOT COMPLAIN) 1 Pet 2:9

  1. We are a covenant people. Rev 10:1-7
    1. Rev 10:6 That there will be delay no longer!
    2. Rev 10:1 The rainbow speaks of the covenant that the OT saints had with God after the flood. For the NT believer, the rainbow speaks of Jesus our New Covenant.
    3. The rainbow now becomes a powerful reminder of our justification in Jesus.
    4. Even though Noah was exposed, yet he was justified by the covenant.
    5. Abraham lied about Sarah but God never found fault with him because he was covenanted with God. Gen 12:13
    6. Heb 11:39-40 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: (40) God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
    7. The promise is not just healing, blessing, prosperity, its JESUS and His finished work on the cross that guarantees us the covenant relationship.

So delay no longer. Let’s enter our New Beginnings!

OUR COVENANT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD Part II

At the core of every relationship is the dynamic tension that can lead to growth and maturity. Elements of take control and surrender.

How to identify when to surrender and when to take charge?

As we study Bible characters we would notice some very general patterns that most of them followed in seeking God’s will in entering into New Beginnings.

The STOP Method

1. Surrender

  • Do not remember the former things nor consider the things of old (surrender) Is 43:18-19; forgetting what is behind (Phil 3:13)
  • Luke 9:23 deny himself (surrender) and follow me.
  • Abraham surrendered (Gen 11:31 & 12:1-3; Gen 22 sacrifice Isaac; Luke 9:59,61
  • Many remain in surrender and don’t move on to the next part. What do we do after surrender?

2. Trust

  • Abraham trusted that God would provide the sacrifice.
  • Joseph trusted God to bring to pass the destiny. That God has New Beginnings for him. Do we?
  • Trusting God’s grace (His unmerited favor) instead of our self efforts. Devil’s ploy to tire us out, burn out, strive
  • Jesus trusted; Paul trusted (2 Tim 1:12)

3. Obey

  • 1 Sam 15:22, Is 1:19
  • Children of Israel in the wilderness-obedience issue-manna to be collected day to day (still an issue today? Word?
  • Nation of Israel-Judges 2-3: apostasy, oppression, repentance, restoration.
  • Many give up at OBEY.

4. Persevere, Patience

  • (Heb 6:12) That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. (Jas 1:3) Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
  • Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Conclusion

  • We need to understand that this is a dynamic relationship and it through the understanding and living this relationship that we are launched into the New Beginnings with God.
  • In the end, it is not so much what we achieve or the goals that we attain but the richness of the relationship we have grown with God.
  • God’s ultimate aim in giving us New Beginnings is not goals but to draw us closer to Him!

Communication Skills by Christopher K

Quick To Listen, Slow To Speak; “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.”

The Challenges Of Communication

  • Speaking too much
  • Different backgrounds (paradigms)
  • Speaking before thinking
  • Wrong attitudes
  • Poor listening skills ; “He who answers before listening that is his folly and shame.” (Proverbs 18:13)

Basic Styles Of Listening

  1. The JUDGMENTAL listener
  2. The INTERROGATIVE listener
  3. The ADVICE-GIVING listener
  4. The EMPATHIC listener

Barriers To Listening

  • Preoccupied with something else
  • Mind is already made up
  • Interruptions and distractions
  • Mind wanders (daydreaming)
  • Lack of interest
  • Defensive reaction to criticism

Overcoming Barriers To Listening

  • Become active:
  • Get involved in the discussion;
  • Ask questions;
  • Seek clarification ;
  • Reflect feelings
  • Use ‘alert’ body language: Erect posture (if seated, lean forward slightly);
  • Maintain eye contact

Overcoming Barriers To Listening

  • Periodically summarize: “So what you’re saying is that…”
  • Acknowledge criticism, but don’t react

Levels Of Listening

  • Ignoring
  • Pretend Listening
  • Selective Listening
  • Attentive Listening
  • Empathic Listening; Everyone’s life is so singular, so unique. Who will listen to understand that uniqueness?

Empathic Listening

  • Interpreter
  • Listening with your ears, eyes, and heart
  • Caring attitude
  • Sincere desire to understand
  • Not agreeing, disagreeing, or offering solutions simply seeking to understand

“The one who listens does the most work, not the one who speaks.”

OUR COVENANT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

At the core of every relationship is the dynamic tension that can lead to growth and maturity. Elements of take control and surrender. Dying to self centered desires and surrendering to God’s will, take charge of God’s call on your life, courageously overcoming the challenges and fulfilling our destiny.

2 Tim 2:20-21

There are 2 processes at work.

The Surrender Posture
Shedding-ego, fears, control. Submission to God. God in first place. Honor, respect and deference (reverence) to God.
Prepares us to communicate with God. (Keep meditating on who we are right now…don’t hear the old voices any more, reject it!).
A Posture of Peace. A place of trust, assurance and confidence that God is with us. It isn’t an event but a daily process.

The Take Charge Posture
Personal responsibility (Peter release from prison Acts 12:7-8)
God has given us a free will and the ability to make choices. (Adam and Eve).
A posture of power, courage, personal initiative, leadership, integrity, accountability, discipline, perseverance, action and follow through It is in this posture that our partnership with God manifests in our lives and at work.
When God asked Nehemiah to build the wall, he did not ask God to build it for him but asked God for strength to build it. Same thing with Solomon. All through the Bible we find such examples.

The Surrender Posture actually prompts the Take Charge Posture.

Our New Beginnings in whatever area is determined by both our posture of surrender and taking charge. The KEY is to understand when to surrender and when to take charge. Our tendency is normally to try to control things we have to surrender and surrender things that we have to take charge.

Serenity Prayer
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Oswald Chambers

“Our Lord never takes measures to make me do what He wants. Sometimes I wish God would master and control me to make me do what He wants, but He will not. And at other times I wish He would leave me alone, and He does not.”

IN JESUS NAME

Click Here to Listen to this Message

We have used this phrase many times without fully realizing the power of that phrase or even what it really means.

Col 1:26-27

What does the phrase IN JESUS NAME signify?

  1. IT’S A COVENANTAL STATEMENT.
    1. VERTICAL: We are declaring that we are in covenant relationship with the LORD. Phil 2:5-11; John 14:12-14; John 15:12-17
    2. HORIZONTAL: To operate in that Name, we are to acknowledge the covenant relationship we have with one another. God has however given us the power and the revelation of this relationship i.e. we don’t have to strive to get into the relationship, only to maintain it and to enhance it. The moment we say “In Jesus Name”, we are declaring that we are one in Jesus; we have the authority) and the privilege of using that Name because we are part of His Body! John 17:11; Eph 4:3

What if the other person doesn’t agree with me? We are still in covenant relationship not based on how the other person is responding or what they say! Our covenant relationship is based on what Christ has accomplished on the finished work of the cross! We are the BODY of Christ!

Matt 18:18-20; Mark 9:37; Mark 9:41

One of the biggest weapons of Satan is to cause brethren to be in disunity. If he can just keep us apart and from praying with each other, he has accomplished his purpose. Imagine the power that is released when husband and wife pray together, brothers and sisters, children and parents; is there anything that will be impossible to us as we believe in that NAME?

  1. IT’S A NAME THAT GIVES US THE POWER & AUTHORITY.

Mark 16:16-18; Mark 9:39; Matt 28:18-20; Acts 3:16

  1. WE ARE HUMBLED BY THAT NAME

We are declaring through Jesus Name, whatever we are praying for has been accomplished by Jesus on the cross i.e. healing, finances, salvation. It is grace released into that situation, not our strength. It’s an act of humility. We are saying we are submitted to that Name. Without that Name our prayers are powerless.

2 Chron 7:14-17

Let’s not use that Name in vain but use it with covenant, power/authority and humility!

Prayer: Give us New Understanding in this Year of New Beginnings of the Name of Jesus!

The Resurrrection
By Rev Albert V Jebanayagam

1 Thess 4:13-18

Christians don’t die; we fall asleep when the time comes we can and will be woken up.

1. When the trumpet sounds:

  • The Lord Himself will descend with a shout.
  • The voice of the archangel and the trumpet sound
  • The dead in Christ will rise first.
  • We will be caught up to be with the LORD

2. There are 2 things that we are comforted about and bring this comfort to the world:

  • Those who have fallen asleep can and will be woken up.
  • Life is precious to those of us who are still alive. We are to use it with the greatest effect in bringing others to Christ.

3. Types of resurrection (of those who had fallen asleep) found in the NT and OT.

  • Lk 7:11 The widow of Nain. She did not ask Jesus for help. He simply saw her grief and responded.
  • Mark 5:41: Jesus saw the desperation of Jairus and responded to his plea.
  • John 11:43 Jesus raised Lazarus in spite of being dead for 4 days.
  • 1 Kg 17:24 The words of a “man of God” brought life to the boy.
  • 2 Kgs 4:35 Elisha raises the Shunammite’s woman’s son from the dead.

THE WORD of the TRUE PROPHET of Malaysia shall bring life and revival to this land!

Here I am, Send me
By David Lai

Click here to listen to this message

Isa 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

  • There is a difference between “Here I am” and “I am here”.
  • The first means we are present and available and the other one just means that we are present i.e. in class and paying attention or just in class, present.
  • Our King Uzziah could be our carrier, friends, family, money, health. This could be the reason as to why many times we are present in church; “I am here”; but not available. Until we let our Uzziah die, we cannot become present and available; “Here am I”.
  • We need to decide when our “King” dies; who is going to be our next “King”. We can allow another “King” to take the throne or we can turn to God.
  • God is waiting for us to speak to him and once we turn to Him the veil over our eyes will be removed and we will see the supernatural take place v.1-3
  • It is a place of total bankruptcy to self and total dependency upon God v.5-7
  • Not by might i.e. political, educational or financial, etc; but by the Spirit of God.
  • We can fix problems but only God can cleanse our sins. Isaiah was cleansed and he said “Here am I”.
  • Moses turned to the burning bush (present and available) and God called him. Samuel ran to Eli (Present and available) and God called him.
  • If we are present we may hear once “Samuel” but if we are available we will keep on hearing “Samuel, Samuel”. 1 Sam 3:1-10
  • God calls the foolish. The Bible “foolish” here is not “stupid”. It’s a foolishness of not measuring the way the world measures things. 1 Cor 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
  • Jn 15:16 God chose us and appointed us; when we are appointed, we need to simply make ourselves available. Appointment brings the anointing which is the empowerment and the authorization of God.
  • That our “Fruit” should remain; only one fruit; to be conformed to the image of Christ i.e. sons!
  • People begin to recognize God in us-when we are present and available.
  • Is 8:18, Mark 16:15 Our lives begin to be a signboard leading people to God through signs, wonders and miracles.

Conclusion
Is 58:9 When we say “Here I am” and are available, God says to us “Here I am”. God is always available to those who are not just present but available to Him.

Is 66:1-2 We touch heaven and change earth!

Prayers That Move God’s Heart
Ps. Abel Phillips

Click here to listen to this message

Text: Acts 10:1-8

Characteristics of Cornelius (verse 2) that moved God’s heart to answer:

1. Devoted – pious /godly and committed to the highest ideals. – God / authorities etc

2. God Fearing – world manipulates. God is respectful, the world does not respect,

  • Respect one another/ authority, flag / rules/ other ethnics groups.
  • Disrespect brings disorder and disunity and stops God from hearing us.
  • God answers when there is a spirit of respect and unity. Our motions and money used to please God.

1 Thess 5:14-22 – call us to abstain from all form of evil
Eph 6:1-3 – Children obey your parents.

3. Generous – gives alms to the poor /needy. God is generous / we should not manipulate with money.
John. 3:16 – God is generous – He gave His only SON for us.
To be generous is to charitably contribute. Start to learn on how to give generously... to others, church, leaders for this pleases God

4. Servant - He served (v2) with his family. How did he make his soldiers and family follow him? He learnt to serve. Jesus, the Creator said, he came not to be served but to serve. (Matt 20:28)
Today, our society – likes to be served not to serve. Change now! We have all been called to serve.

Moral of the story

God knew Cornelius’ name. He knows your name too.

Cornelius had 3 encounters as the result of his prayer.

  • Vision – God gives Pictures – praying / forgive/ helping etc.
  • Instruction – God gives us information and direction in life
  • Acceptance – acceptance in the KOG / God’s family.

Our duty is to let them (our neighbours, relatives and people we are acquainted with) know that God accepts them through GRACE by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

God answers when our hearts are ready.

Pray: Lord, give us a heart of disposition to respond to You, always abiding in You, that we may bear fruits that are pleasing to You, bringing blessings to others (John15:5).

Living A Burden-Free Life
by Ps Samuel Hari

Mat 11:28-30 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. (29) "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. (30) "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

  • Who are “all who weary?” This is an invitation only to these and not to anyone else. Symptoms?
  • What does weariness cause? We become tired, condemned, burdened, overwhelmed, sickness, stress, resentful, unforgiving, pride, fear, etc
  • What are weary of? People’s expectation? Our own expectation? Your own “religious expectations? The law? Legalism? The world value system?

So this invitation is for each and everyone of us!

We have sometimes brought the world into the church. We have superimposed the world template onto the church template. Why? We live in the world and are exposed from the world systems from childhood. Rom 12:2

    • It is a system of the law and legalism
    • Our whole value system is based on point system!
    • The LORD desires for us to live a burden free life!
    • First of all we need to realize that a burden is a curse! Reject it! (Gen 3:17, Genesis 5:29, Ecclesiastes 1:13-14, Ecclesiastes 2:17, Romans 8:20-22)
  • Where do we go? “Come to me” Don’t carry your own yoke (religion, expectations, self righteousness); take HIS yoke (the finished work of the cross that carries the unmerited favor of God).
  • How to go? “learn from me” “I am gentle and humble in heart”. The key is to be humble. Humility is needed to stop and pray. Pride says we can go on ourselves (religion, legalism). God resists to proud but gives grace to the humble.
  • What happens? “YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. (30) "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

· Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to change our mind-sets. Let’s begin to read scripture from the point of the NT. From the point of the finished work of the cross. The OT is important and must now read from the NT mindset. 2 Chr 7.14; Jn 10.10; 1 Cor 11.29, Col 1.10. What is worthy enough?

· The LORD desires for us to live a burden-free life. How? We are burden free as we look at Jesus and the finished work of the cross. He has born all our burdens. In fact carrying burdens is an act of pride and God resists the proud. No wonder we’ve been stressed out! (1 Pet 5:5-11 (AMP), Ps 37.5 (Roll thy way upon, the LORD. Heb))

PRESS STATEMENT

A Response to the Prime Minister's Speech at the General Assembly of UMNO on November 8, 2007.

The Christian Federation of Malaysia has noted with great appreciation Datuk Seri Adbullah Badawi's presidential address to the UMNO 58th General Assembly where he had stressed the importance of maintaining harmony between the various communities and religions.

As Prime Minister, his speech was not only meant for the UMNO delegates but also for the whole nation.

In his speech he particularly highlighted the central place of the Federal Constitution and for it to be interpreted as a whole and in the spirit of the social contract of the founding leaders of the nation.

He also called for curbing all forms of religious extremism, bigotry and overzealous enforcement of laws that curb the freedom of religion as guaranteed in the Federal Constitution.

His clarion call must engage the best efforts of all Malaysians to ensure that our country is governed with honesty, integrity, justice, equality and peace.

The Christians of Malaysia want to assure the Prime Minister that we are prepared to work with all other religious communities in mutual dialogue and accountability. The well-being of our country can only be achieved by practicing religious moderation and respecting the Constitution as the supreme law of the land.

The government should act decisively against those who promote religious chauvinism and extremism that can greatly harm the spirit of religious harmony existing in our country.

May God grant the Prime Minister and his cabinet ministers good health and wise counsel as they lead the country to become a model of inter-religious harmony for other nations to emulate.

Walking in Repentance
By Ps Francis Peters

Amo 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing Unless He reveals His secret counsel To His servants the prophets.

How do we strengthen our inner man? By walking in repentance

  • Offenses must come; however our inner man must be strong. Our inner man can be weakened by unconfessed sin. When we are strong in our inner man than we will be strong outwardly i.e. healing, deliverance, joy of the LORD, etc. Mt 18:7, Pro 18:14; Pro 17:22. We become strong by focusing on the Christ’s finish work on the cross.
  • We must follow God’s way of correcting those who offend us. Mt 18:15-17
  • God desires to give us abundant life Jn 10:10
  • Speak and confess correct words that bring life and health. Mt 18:21; Mt 12:36
  • Ps 41:4 Asking God to heal our soul through Christ.
  • 1 Jn 1:8-9 If we say we have no sin, we are not telling the truth. However, through the finished work of Christ on the cross we are forgiven and have victory.
  • Isa 38:3 (part) ….how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart, and have done the good in Your sight. And Hezekiah wept with a great weeping.
  • Mic 6:13 Sickness can be due to unconfessed sin our lives. We can come to Jesus and receive His finished work on the cross and be made whole!

2 Cor 5:17 We are a New Creation! Old things (our flesh, our own efforts, works of the law) have passed away and behold ALL things (blessings, prosperity, health and healing, the joy of the LORD, etc) are new and ours!
